I took the photograph that inspired this painting on a visit to the incredible Great Dixter House and Gardens a few years ago. These old bottles, in one of the barns there, had probably been placed there decades ago.

But that light! That texture!

It’s only recently that I’ve felt brave enough to tackle this image.

Just like the philosophy of the garden itself …there is beauty in what is left.
