Finished this one this morning. Another of the wonderful old interiors at St Fagans National Museum of History.
It’s the light that first attracted me to this little room. The way it falls through the deeply recessed window, catches the old wooden chair and stretches across the uneven flagstones.
I often wonder about the people who lived in these places. The countless ordinary days spent within these walls, the work that needed doing, the routines repeated from one generation to the next. Lives that were often hard, with little time or opportunity to stop and appreciate the beauty around them.
And yet, there is such beauty here. In the worn furniture, the rough limewashed walls and, above all, in the quiet light.
I’ve resisted the temptation to add anything more. Sometimes it’s the empty spaces that have the most to say.
