Whitewashed Walls, Geffrye Alms House, Hoxton, East London
£550.00Price
I seem to have channelled an inner Hammershøi with this painting of one of the alms houses that now form part of the amazing Museum of the Home in Hoxton, East London.
The 14 alms houses were built from a legacy left by Sir William Geffrye, a Lord Mayor of London, for use by the widows of London ironmongers. I wonder if he felt that this benevolence would make up for the tens of thousands of lives he destroyed as a transatlantic slave trader?
